Introduction by Dr. Gurjodhacharya

Revered Gurudev Vaikunthvasi Sudarshanacharya Ji Maharaj

The merciful and compassionate, the saviour of the fallen and sinful, Bhagwan, has incarnated in various forms in every era to instil spiritual awareness and vision in the Indian populace according to the divine commands. In the Sanatan Dharma, the tradition of avatars (incarnations of God) has been established to spread the eternal religion and divine knowledge among the wise. Lord Krishna, with his divine proclamation

Sambhavami Yuge Yuge,

I manifest myself, age after age
Bhagavad Gita (Chapter 4, Verse 8)

has taken various forms in each era to destroy demons, establish and propagate righteousness.

In this supreme mission, the past, present, and future have seen the revered second Ramanujacharya, the eternally memorable Anant Shrivibhushit Indraprastha and Haryana Peethadheeshwar Swami Sudarshanacharya Ji, who was born in a prosperous farmer Brahmin family in Padla village of Savai Madhopur district on the holy land of Rajasthan on May 27, 1937.

Living the saying “The powerful are revered,” he devoted his life to spiritual and social welfare, having first gained religious and cultural learning under the guidance of Mahant Shri Ganeshpuri of the famous temple in Mainaighur Bazaar. Later, he undertook initiation and education from Swami Govinddevacharya Maharaj in the sacred Vrindavan Dham of Brajmandal, followed by deep studies of Vedic scriptures in the sacred city of Kashi.

In the tradition of “Experience-based devotional knowledge,” following the teachings of Saint Tulsidas, he immersed himself in the rigorous meditative practices of the divine in the dense forests, contributing to the welfare of humanity. In the cultural heritage, a large family of Hudasiyans found a home on the foothills of the Aravali mountains in Purushudhan, Parashar, Vyasa, and Siddhashram, near Faridabad, on the Vyasa Hill, where the foundation of Siddhadata Ashram was laid even before 1989. An interesting and emotional legend is associated with this divine residence of Shri Krishna in Faridabad.

While traveling towards Delhi, due to the sudden stopping of the vehicle in the scorching heat of June in Mathura Dham, Maharajji experienced a miracle of water. Despite examining the vehicle carefully, nothing was visible. However, an invisible voice was heard, which was taken as evidence and inspired the construction of an ashram at the location. Maharajji’s initial efforts led to the successful completion of the ashram’s construction. Maharajji’s worldly desires were confined to the construction of the ashram, but later, the construction of Shri Lakshmi Narayan Divya Dham began as per divine command, starting on the auspicious day of Vijayadashami in 1996. Maharajji’s humility was tested through numerous trials by devotees, leading to the completion of the grand divine establishment of Shri Lakshmi Narayan Divya Dham by devoted disciples.

This divine place fulfils the needs of all devout individuals, encompassing all beneficial aspects of Dharma (righteousness), Artha (prosperity), Kama (desires), and Moksha (liberation). Revered Maharajji’s philosophy of life prominently features the principles of chanting God’s name, surrender, humanity, and public service, which are shared with devotees and worldly individuals alike. His experiences are shared as follows:

Kiya diya tere rang chalega, dharm karm ka naata hai,
Sai naam ki chinta ka ke, dene wala deta hai

Whatever is done by Your grace, the bond of dharma and karma is there,
One who worries about the name of Sai, the giver gives

Guruji embraced these true words, preaching that the highest principle is surrender to God. Through numerous transformations and interactions with globally experienced devotees, he tirelessly endeavoured to instil this principle among the masses. As a result, the current focus of Arya Samaj in many regions is also drawn towards God and His devotees. Practical applications of divine teachings provide solutions to problems and direct experiences serve as many proofs.

Vipra Dhenu Guru San Hit

The Brahmin, the cow, and the Guru are always present (or together)
Tulsidas

according to Tulsidas’ saying, implies that God incarnates in various forms to protect the social order and cow wealth. Following the principle of “Gram Madhya Sthitayamushmak,” revered Maharajji constructed a large cowshed to protect the cow wealth, housing more cows than could be counted. This initiative continuously provides medicinal and human services through the production of Panchagavya (a combination of five cow products).

Influenced by Swamiji’s extraordinary glory and qualities, the Vaishnav community adorned him with the title of Srimannarayana Ramanujacharya at the 1998 Haridwar Kumbh Mela on the sacred banks of the Ganges, thereby enhancing the prestige of this position. In his role, Maharajji has contributed immensely to Haryana.

In Faridabad, the establishment of Shri Lakshmi Narayan Divya Dham in Siddhadata Ashram has created a pilgrimage site where devotees will continue to gain spiritual merit through their visits for eternity. The unique and intricate artworks made of marble in the temple enchant visitors merely with their sight. The beautifully adorned idols of God in the temple appear to shower their grace and engage in divine conversation, experiencing the devotion of the visitors and contemplating their thoughts. This feeling is shared by Mahant Purushottamacharya and other visitors, indicating that the eternal presence of Anant Shrivibhushit Indraprastha and Haryana Peethadheeshwar Jagadguru Ramanujacharya Swami Sudarshanacharya Ji Maharaj permeates the temple and the hearts of the residents of the Ashram.

The teachings and divine play of spiritual knowledge continuously guide devotees, disciples, and those in suffering towards spiritual progress. At the same time, the path of universal human welfare is promoted by embodying the sentiments of:

Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam

The world is one family

and

Sarve bhavantu sukhinah, sarve santu niramayah
Sarve bhadrani pashyantu, ma kashchit duhkha-bhag bhavet

May all be happy; May all be free from illness.
May all see what is auspicious; May no one suffer

During his lifetime, on April 23, 2007, he ceremoniously appointed Swami Purushottamacharya Ji as his successor in the presence of many saints, Mahants, and devotees, thus relieving himself of worldly responsibilities and the duties of Siddhadata Ashram. On May 22, 2007, at the auspicious time of noon under the Abhijit Nakshatra, he departed his mortal body to reside eternally in Vaikuntha, yet he remains forever present in the hearts of his devotees.

The Soul Proclaims the Son

“The soul proclaims the son,” according to the scriptural principles, the father’s soul manifests in the son with his virtues. In this context, Indraprastha and Haryana Peethadheeshwar, Anant Shrivibhushit Vaikunthvasi Swami Sudarshanacharya’s spiritual son and disciple, Shri Shambhu Sharma, the current Acharya Anant Shrivibhushit Indraprastha and Haryana Peethadheeshwar Jagadguru Ramanujacharya Swami Purushottamacharya, was born and proved to be a worthy son of a worthy father. Since his early childhood, Shambhu has been tested on the spiritual path and has been actively contributing to the construction and other activities of the ashram since 1989. Therefore, the foresighted revered Guru Maharaj entrusted him with the task of land consecration for Siddhadata Ashram. Recognizing his gentle nature, soft-spoken, loving, and amiable behaviour and other excellent qualities, he was entrusted with the responsibility of the President of the Janhit Charitable Trust. He was also appointed as the President of the Siddhadata Institution Service Committee. He has fulfilled the responsibilities of these positions with full capacity, completing the unfinished dreams of revered Guru Maharajji and the incomplete works of the ashram, demonstrating capability, foresight, and tireless effort.

Revered Guru Maharaj Swami Purushottamacharya Ji conducted the consecration ceremony of various deities at Shri Lakshmi Narayan Divya Dham in Siddhadata Ashram from April 19 to 23, 2007, demonstrating his maturity. In this ceremony, many priests, acharyas, scholars, saints, mahants, peethadheeshwars, politicians, ministers, and officials from across the country and abroad attended. By providing hospitality, transportation facilities, and tirelessly working, he proved his compassionate personality. On April 23, 2007, in the presence of the entire Vaishnav community and saints, Swami Purushottamacharya Ji Maharaj was ceremoniously anointed to the dignified position of his successor. After the Vaikunthvasi of Swami Sudarshanacharya Ji, Acharyashree was also adorned with the position of Indraprastha and Haryana Peethadheeshwar and Shrimad Jagadguru Ramanujacharya. This grand event was presided over by Mahant Shri Jayakrishna Ji of Bada Khatta Vrindavan and included many archakas, saints, mahants, and Jagadgurus.

Accomplished

Under your guidance, all the incomplete dreams of the ashram have been realized in a comprehensive manner, and many new constructions have been completed. You were ceremoniously anointed as Jagadguru Ramanujacharya Indraprastha and Haryana Peethadheeshwar on June 4, 2007, in front of Vaishnavs, saints, and Mahants. Since that day, you have been continuously working for the all-round development of the ashram, the propagation of Vaishnav Dharma, and the welfare of the people. The spirit of public welfare and social service is ingrained in your nature. You remain constantly active for the welfare of the people.

Living with your revered Vaikunthvasi Guru Maharaj Ji, you not only experienced the sufferings and ailments of ordinary humans in both Vedic and practical terms but also absorbed the methods and knowledge for their resolution. Therefore, you are constantly in contact with countless devotees worldwide, initiating them into the divine wisdom of Srimad Bhagavatam and addressing their spiritual problems with thoughtful courage. Your spiritual discourses given from time to time have been awakening deep faith and true belief in the hearts of the devotees. Consequently, the constant flow of reverence and the embodiment of the revered Vaikunthvasi Maharaj’s presence in the ashram continues to delight the devotees. The holistic development of Siddhadata Ashram, along with the organization of new programs, under your guidance, has filled the hearts of the devotees with joy.

“Everywhere victorious (among sons), the disciple’s supremacy is established”—embodying this principle, Vaikunthvasi Maharaj Ji is also feeling proud. Under your protection, Shri Lakshmi Narayan Divya Dham and Janhit Charitable Trust are progressing day by day on the path of progress.

Om Shanti:

Salutations to the Guru

There are certain important days in human society that are always remembered. The full moon of the Shukla Paksha of Ashadha month is called Guru Purnima. It is also known as Vyasa Purnima. The day from which guidance begins is the day Guru Purnima became significant. Guru Purnima is a day that provides humanity with the guidance of the true path, truthful thinking, and truthful actions. It is true that under the protection and blessings of the Guru, a human being makes his subtle life successful and attains liberation through union with the divine. Between the soul and the supreme soul, there is a very deep chasm called the ocean of illusion. Special creatures of delusion, greed, lust, anger, envy, and ego dwell in this ocean. No human can swim across this ocean. Amid these harmful creatures, human beings live a dramatic life, forgetting the tests of duty and responsibility. In such a terrible darkness, who will listen to the soul? Where will the ray of light come from? How will the lamp of knowledge be lit? How will the moon of wisdom rise? It is very difficult. In this way, the wandering soul takes birth again and again. Wandering in different bodies, it keeps wandering. This ocean can only be crossed by the soul with the help of the Guru as a bridge. The Guru acts as a bridge, taking the soul from this shore to the other shore, liberating it from the great sorrow and freeing it from the bonds of karma, merging it with the divine. The position of the Guru is not ordinary but extraordinary. In this world, this position is considered greater than even God:

Guru Govind dono khade, kake lagu paay,
Balihari Gurudev ki, Govind diyo batay

Guru and Govind (God) both stand before me; whose feet should I touch first?
I am grateful to the Guru who showed me the path to Govind

If there were no Guru, how could I have met Govind by following their instructions? It is the Guru’s immense grace that made me experience eternal supreme happiness, proving the seeker in life. First of all, I bow to the Guru’s feet and seek blessings. They have continually guided me, witnessed me, and paved my path. The Guru’s greatness is immense, which can never be fully described.

To the best of my ability

Many people talk about knowledge, give instructions, and show the path during the long span of human life, but they are not called Gurus. In life, there is only one Guru, who increases love, awakens faith and surrender, whose personality and charisma are attractive, and who repeatedly attracts the disciple like the gravitational pull of the earth. Just like Lord Krishna with Arjuna in confusion,

Gopis left their homes, forgetting their precious jewels, and wandered into the forests of Madhuban. For them, Krishna was everything. Similarly, in life, there is only one Guru, under whose protection the disciple attains perfection. One must choose a Guru. Not everyone can be made a Guru. The form of the Guru must be observed, their personality, Vedic knowledge, and proficiency in practice must be considered before forming a relationship with the Guru. In today’s era, many people proclaim themselves as Gurus. These are pretenders who carry thousands of disciples with them for commercial purposes. When their sermons begin to be broadcast on radio and television, they come into the viewers’ vision. Making such people Gurus cannot lead to the attainment of the goal. Instead, it is a waste of time and money on an egoistic life. On the day of Guru Purnima, such ashrams are crowded with disciples who honour these pretenders.

This is not dedication but open robbery, and the money from this robbery is used for material prosperity. This has no relation to spirituality. Many Babas live a life of pretension. They live a life of deceit, indulge in immoral activities, and perform unrestrained acts, claiming themselves to be very knowledgeable. These are all pretenders and greedy people. It is very difficult to have a feeling of reverence for such Gurus. Reverence ends in the context of stomach worship and knowledge glorification. People do not feel reverence for pretenders. They run after countless miracles. These are not miracles but sleight of hand. It is better to stay away from such inactive people. No true Guru advertises themselves, nor do they display themselves.

The Essence of the Guru

Only a knowledgeable person can grasp the essence of the Guru. The one who has studied the Vedas, Vedangas, and Vedanta deeply and formed their personality accordingly is worthy of being called a Guru. There is no pretence. A Guru does not have a university degree. There are many who possess immense knowledge. They are repositories of knowledge. The Guru’s personality should have dignity and decency. The person who has conquered the six internal enemies through their practice alone is worthy of the title of Guru. The seeker’s forehead automatically reflects the Guru’s brilliance. Ordinary people are devoted to them with mind and body. The Guru distributes the fruits of their practice to the common people. The Guru’s blessings are their deeds. What good doctors cannot cure, and what fierce legal disputes cannot resolve, are solved through the Guru. The Guru’s greatest blessing is: ‘Yatrasthi Bhushitah:’

A person who lives a simple life with renunciation does not live for themselves but is born for society. A devotee’s duty is to guide people on the right path by giving them direction. The Guru’s role is to attract people, explain the cycle of life to the grief-stricken, relieve the suffering of the sick, and guide people from materialism to spirituality. The Guru does not seek wealth, position, or material grandeur, but seeks devotion. A disciple should surrender to the Guru with pure emotions and devotion because it is said that:

Yadavi bhavana tadṛishi siddhir bhavati

As is the feeling, so is the achievement

The position of the Guru is considered even higher than that of God. Just as God is diverse, superior, and formless, so is the Guru. With the Guru’s blessings, the impossible becomes possible. Ancient scriptures and examples show that with the Guru’s blessings, disciples have achieved their life’s goals. Many disciples have attained God. The Guru tests his disciples from time to time and gives heartfelt blessings upon their success. Many figures like Upamanyu, Sri Krishna, Sudama, and others have succeeded in their tests and received the Guru’s blessings. The Guru’s command is supreme. One should not combine the Guru’s orders with their own judgment because there is a vast difference between your thoughts and the Guru’s thoughts. If you disobey or interpret the command with your own thinking, you will not remain a complete disciple. It is difficult to achieve glory without the Guru. The Guru provides the knowledge of worship or practice to the disciple. When the Guru assesses the disciple’s eligibility, he then directs them towards the path of practice. The Guru may provide guidance on rituals for hours, but misunderstandings and obstacles still arise. Overcoming them requires the Guru’s protection. If a disciple considers themselves competent in practice, they make the biggest mistake. Their ego leads to their downfall. Thus, practice can only be successfully performed under the Guru’s protection. If the Guru is present, even a layperson can cross the worldly ocean. Disciples should complete their practice under the Guru’s discipline and attain realization.

Today, people have developed a deep interest in worldly life, staying far from knowledge-based tests. The Guru lives with the desire for various material achievements. Today, those who come near the Guru bring only one desire – to fulfil their incomplete tasks. “I should get a high position. I should obtain a political post. I should have a son.” With such desires, disciples approach the Guru. The Guru cannot make your impossibilities possible. Can the impossible ever be related? The Guru, with his blessings, takes you from a life of suffering to a path of happiness. If you are a person of the masses,

Even if one wants to buy the Guru, there is no commercial centre there. No true Guru can sell their practice under the influence of money. Blessings cannot be given under temptation. Blessings are inherent in your devotion and faith. Any Guru who is pleased with your financial or material considerations and agrees to do any wrong deed is not worthy of the Guru’s position. Instead, they are pretenders and liars. A Guru does not look at wealth, position, caste, or authority in the disciple’s dedication but looks at devotion, surrender, and service. If your surrender is complete, it touches the Guru’s heart, motivated by blessings.

Most people in society see a position and, knowing the competition, run to make the Guru their own. They think that if someone got this blessing, they would get it too. With this thinking, they reach the Guru’s door. They know nothing about the Guru’s personality, dignity, or ideals. They only understand their selfishness as paramount. The desire for petty gains creates illusions in their lives. Their lives then lack service spirit and the desire for surrender. Such people go to fulfil their selfish ends. They are not fulfilled but start speaking slanderous words. When you slander the Guru, you bring thoughts of your slander to mind. You harm your afflicted pages. You become degraded yourself. The Guru’s personality is not harmed by your slanderous words because they are a practitioner and unaffected. They are not disturbed by your true words. They remain steadfast in their actions. Those disciples who leave their doubts and take refuge in the Guru become fearless. No pain in the world afflicts them. Lord Krishna, making Arjuna his disciple, said one thing:

‘Abandon all duties and come to me alone for refuge.’ This means, O Arjuna! You have become my disciple; you have abandoned your own self. Now, abandon all thoughts, duties, and doubts and come to my refuge. Now, it is my responsibility to free you from all sins, remove all sufferings, and lead you to the path of liberation, to the goal of life. The beautiful work of Krishna was fighting in the battlefield like a dedicated disciple and was victorious. This example is useful for a perfect disciple that they should renounce their discretion and surrender in the Guru’s company. This surrender is true Guru initiation.

On the day of Guru Purnima, every disciple, freeing themselves from worldly activities, expresses their devotion to the Guru and vows to follow the directed path. The Guru’s command is paramount. With this thought, the disciple remembers the Guru and remains engaged in their duties and actions. Offering flowers, incense, sweets, and divine offerings can receive the Guru’s grace.

This grace is not worthy of deceit and misrepresentation. It is the fragrance of the flowers of devotion. By obtaining this fragrance, a person makes their life successful with blessings. The path chosen by the Guru and their guidance should be followed in the path of practice. No Guru wants to tell an ordinary person the difficult path of practice. Difficult practices are only for attaining realization. The Guru has the simplest method: perform the duties of your household while contemplating divine thoughts. In contemplation, all virtuous qualities are included, and a person following this path attains peace and happiness.

There should be no doubt or jealousy towards the Guru. Many people live in malice. The Guru is a sincere warrior and a learned practitioner. If their life does not show some invisible longing, some people only call the Guru an ideal. A slanderer cannot achieve realization. The essence of knowledge and austerity is reflected. Speech follows truth. Envying the Guru’s life leads to self-destruction. Living with the Guru’s gentle vision, following their ideals, following their deep contemplation, and carrying out practices is the goal of a true disciple. If, after attaining realization, one gets entangled in ego and desires, they cannot cross the ocean. The goal should be to achieve the main objective of human life. Many noble Maharajas criticize the Guru. Some mock their attire. Some people evaluate their longing for materialism. They see envy in materialism and luxury. No one thinks about which path would be helpful for moving towards completeness. Devotion and service to the Guru increase longevity, fame, and wealth. With the Guru’s grace, a person engages in lifelong selfless and patient work. The Guru’s authority never displays their ego. They do not advertise their practice. They distribute the fruits of blessings and do not burn anyone with the embers of curses. A person lives and dies with their desires for sins and virtues. The Guru leads them from ego to the light of knowledge without reason. Complete faith and total surrender to the Guru are necessary. Those who hold devotion to the Guru and engage in service receive divine grace and fulfil their life’s purpose.

One person went to the ashram with a fruit as an offering. Bowing to the Guru’s feet, he offered the fruit in worship and became fortunate with the Guru’s exceptional grace, living a life of peace and happiness. Seeing this, others also started going to the ashram with boxes of sweets and baskets of fruits, but they received nothing. These people began to slander the Guru and called the ashram a worshipper of pretension. They did not consider that the thoughts of the mind.

That is the greatest constant. As long as the constant is with us, devotion cannot be born. If the tendency to serve does not arise, there is no question of surrender. Surrender involves abandoning self-interest. No one renounces their own ‘I.’ They live in ‘I’ and die in ‘I.’ This is why true constants stick with them. They can never think of altruism with ego. Altruism is born in the absence of self-renunciation. The field of altruism is vast. Helping other helpless humans, treating the sick, feeding the poor, helping widows, feeding orphans, providing food and clothing, guiding the lost to the right path, abandoning the attitude of criticizing misfortunes, protecting animals and birds, establishing schools, colleges, orphanages, gyms, Vedic schools, etc., all fall under the category of altruism. It is necessary to keep in mind in the spirit of altruism that there should be no condemnation of oneself. If there is a feeling of condemnation, it will be proven true that altruism is being displayed for one’s own selfishness. One should not expect anything in return before giving anything. Because expectations come from greed and are tested in people.

Many gurus, even if they give, should not engage in altruism, as it falls under the category of ego. The true Guru is one who is devoid of ego. If they impart knowledge or give darshan and it is done genuinely, then they are knowledgeable. Because what God has given them is to be distributed. It is not for hoarding. If there is a tendency to hoard, the person will achieve nothing in life. Many knowledgeable people do not distribute Guru-given knowledge or practice-attained knowledge to others. If they do not provide it to deserving individuals, then the source of knowledge ends with them. The knowledge gained from supreme bliss becomes futile. It causes a great cultural loss. Knowledgeable individuals understand that they must select worthy individuals. They may be audacious in imparting knowledge, but they do not misuse knowledge for their own selfishness or to satisfy their ego. They construct their personality by following the Guru’s prescribed path. Continuously engage in altruism through the utility of knowledge. This is the most praiseworthy, the true path of attaining God. With the rise of virtuous qualities, evil tendencies automatically end. Cultural practices refine human life. They make one cultured and allow them to live a pure life.

Construction of the Ashram

When a seeker wants to engage in altruism, they must also establish a proper place. Whether it is a mountaintop or a place of truth, a well-established location is necessary. Many great people love to travel. They give discourses in various places during the four months of monsoon and tell stories to people.

They show the way. Not everyone can walk with the great sages. Therefore, a Guru must have a specific place. Where the Guru sits, that is where the ashram is. In the ashram of Gurudev, there are divine idols, yajnas, schools, cowsheds, guest services, and all kinds of activities. All these activities have a spiritual connection. They are complementary to each other. In the ashram, devotees sit in front of the divine idols and perform worship, and the sounds of devotion resonate. The soul awakens and experiences grandeur. The centre of the ashram is called the ashram. His Excellency, memorable Gurudev Shri Sudarshanacharya Ji, established and structured this vast complex as an ashram outside Delhi, near Faridabad city, at Surajkund. A divine temple was established in this ashram. The statues of deities like Vedvedanta, the Ram family, Ramayana, Mahabharata, Panini, Yogashastra, Hanuman, etc., were installed. In this ashram, all the idols have been consecrated according to the traditions of the Ramanuja sect. Worship and prayer are conducted. Devotees stay pure by seeing these divine idols and feel satisfied in their minds. In the temple complex, there is a Vedic school. Renowned scholars of Ved Science in India conduct classical studies of the Vedas. First, the Vedic Sanskrit is preserved. The students are absorbed in learning, those who have no Vedic arrangement, who wander, leaving their children. Such students get admission here. The ashram takes care of all their arrangements and guides them on the right path. This institution is used for altruism. Many devotees come to the ashram from across the country and abroad to find peace and wish to stay in the Guru’s feet and participate in institutions. The ashram has ample arrangements for their accommodation and meals. The Guru, free from his own practice, gives discourses to devotees, guiding them on the path of righteousness and referring them to ritual practices. Therefore, an ashram setup is necessary. It is said, “A place is not adorned without a ground.” A proper place is essential for a practitioner. Where each blissful seeker chants mantras, practices, and accumulates virtue. This accumulated virtue is then distributed to his disciples, alleviating their suffering. No one accumulates virtue for greatness or self-interest. Their birth is for altruism. Hard work and practice are their duties. If they do not sit in their ashram, how will they accumulate virtue? When the treasure of charity is empty, what will they distribute? Therefore, a specific place is necessary for a seeker.

Some spiritual flames, calling themselves Baba, misuse practice and devotion. This ashram is not just an ashram, but a vast place. Knowledgeable in scriptures and gathering crowds, they show you. Calling themselves incarnations of God, deceivers use tantric methods to hypnotize and rob people of their wealth. These fraudsters use false pretences to make people devotees and play with their families. They exploit life values. They are not saints; they are robbers hiding behind religion.

The specialty of a religious place is where a person is brought from darkness to light. They are inspired to move from a false path to the right path. The fundamental mantra of the ashram and the Guru’s duty is to inspire from ignorance to knowledge. The ashram system is the centre of righteous people where subjects should be studied in the company of the Guru. The morning remembrance of Shri Sudarshanacharya Ji’s divine voice is followed. Singing on the righteous path under the Guru’s guidance purifies human thoughts. Gurudev’s ashram is now a temple. It is the centre of the supreme soul where life is lived with development in self-education. As we have been told before, without their attraction, no practice can succeed. The Guru’s name itself indicates greatness. Their vision is divine vision. Disciples bow to their name and successfully carry out noble deeds.

Regarding the grace of Shri Sudarshanacharya Ji, his disciple Shri Rameshwar Singh Ji wrote some words that explain the glory of Acharya Ji and define his practice power.

“I came into contact with Shri Guru Maharaj Ji in 1986. In the last 20 years, many wonderful events have happened in my life. If the number of those miraculous events is counted, they are countless. When I hear devotees recounting the miraculous events in their lives, I fully believe them because many miraculous events have occurred in my own life. Before coming into contact with Shri Guru Maharaj, when people talked about miraculous events, I did not believe them. I thought they were either false or some imagination of the mind. Guru’s grace has made everything clear today. The Supreme Soul and the Guru in the form of the Supreme Soul can do anything for their devotees. They break worldly rules for their devotees.”

Since childhood, I have had an interest in reading religious and classical books. I have also read the books of philosophical scholars, such as Karma Mimamsa, Blackstone Russell, and the religious philosophers’ books. Swami Vivekananda, Aurobindo Ghosh, etc. I have read the books of modern politics (modern), Mahatma Gandhi, and other great saints and spiritual leaders. I have heard the expositions of the Arya Samaj and the doctrines of equality religion. I have read the books of the Radhasoami faith, the Gita, and the Ramcharitmanas. Because of the above reasons, no firm belief has formed in my mind, brain, about the existence of God, goddesses, ancestors, Guru, soul, reincarnation, human goals, etc. Whether all these exist or not, I don’t know.

I could say that the belief was that it might be possible and it might not be. I was neither a believer nor an atheist. Gradually, after coming into contact with Shri Guru Maharaj, that fog of hesitation broke. I developed a firm belief in God, His principles, deities, ancestors, the Guru, the doctrine of karma, human goals, etc. Today, thousands of atheists say that there is no God, no soul, deities have no existence, ancestors do exist, but their influence does not affect me. Because Shri Guru Maharaj, through his words, gave direct evidence of the unknown, making them experience and prove that the beliefs of Sanatan Dharma are 100 percent true. Now, no one can shake my beliefs with their ideas.

By the grace of Shri Guru Maharaj, today I have no fear of the future, no fear, no doubt. I have full faith that the divine principle exists at all times, everywhere. It is fully just and completely compassionated towards those who seek refuge. To remove the sufferings of those who seek refuge, both the Supreme Soul and the Guru break their own rules, this I have experienced and fully believe.

As a result of our karma, painful and pleasant circumstances keep coming and going, but being unhappy or happy is the boundary of death. We should remain balanced in every situation and make good use of it. Without the refuge of the Supreme Soul, attaining a balanced state is not possible. According to destiny, good and bad situations keep coming. We must endure them and never retreat from righteous actions.

Many disciples are making a big mistake by limiting themselves only to materialism. They have given more importance to the pebbles and stones of materialism than to the spiritual diamonds. They want to fulfil their desires. They do not believe in the Guru’s words; they do not accept them. This is why their faith wavers and they remain wandering. At this time, they keep crying about their sufferings, spending nights in pain. How will they find peace and happiness? If we truly want peace, we must believe in the words of Shri Guru Maharaj. We must follow their principles. Otherwise, we will not find peace even in our dreams. It is written in the Ramayana:

Guru ke vachan pratidin jehi,
Sampanhen srigam na sukh siddhite

He who listens to the Guru’s words daily,
will attain joy and not fail in achieving happiness

In the Ramayana, it is also written that humans are afflicted with many diseases like lust, anger, attachment, greed, ego, envy, hatred, etc. To be saved from these diseases, Goswami Ji writes:

Satguru ke vachan mein vishwas karo,
Yahi shishya ka aadhar hai

Have faith in the words of the true Guru,
this discipline is the disciple’s hope

By having faith and trust in the Guru’s words and following them, lust, anger, etc., will be destroyed. Lord Krishna, as a Guru, gave teachings to Arjuna. He did not perform any magic. He simply gave teachings that Arjuna accepted. Therefore, Arjuna said to the Lord:

“My delusion is destroyed. I will act according to your words.” We too should have faith and trust in the many words of Guru Maharaj, uphold them, and our sins from many births will be destroyed, and we will surely attain the place where this life does not return to the cycle of death, achieving supreme peace. This is the goal of realization. Just as I received the Guru’s grace, many fellow disciples have also received the Guru’s grace. Strong faith and trust are required.

Guru’s Glory

The Guru can see invisible sights even from afar. If a disciple has unshakeable faith and devotion in the Guru, they do not falter in difficult circumstances. Seeing death approaching from all sides, they are saved by the Guru’s blessings. There are many such examples. Recently, in the Kedarnath disaster, many examples came forward where people remembered the Guru and escaped from the clutches of the terrible flood, recognizing the importance of the Guru’s grace. This is true; those who have the Guru’s grace, overcome difficulties in their lives. True devotion to the Guru is essential. One should become a disciple with resolution and dedication. When Lord Krishna gave teachings to Arjuna, Arjuna became a dedicated disciple and said to the Lord:

Bhagavan se kaha
Yathokṣyaḥ sthitit-cātma kehi tanno,
Shishyas te tvam prapannam

You are my guide, and I am your disciple,
I am in your refuge, instruct me for my welfare

Arjuna fully expresses that he has come to the Guru’s refuge as a disciple and asks for guidance on the path that is beneficial for him. He says he will follow the Guru’s command precisely to achieve his goal. Therefore, he considers the Guru the greatest refuge. It is also stated in the Gita:

Ishvarah sarva-bhutanam hrit-deshe Arjuna tishthati,
Tameva sharanam gaccha sarva-bhavena bharata

The Lord dwells in the hearts of all beings, O Arjuna,
Seek refuge in Him with all your heart

Arjuna accepted Krishna as his Guru and fought the battle under the Guru’s guidance, achieving victory. This is what needs to be understood; the Guru’s words should be accepted with wisdom and followed precisely. Where knowledge is present, special efforts are not needed. On the day of Guru Purnima, the worship of Guru Maharaj Gurudev is the worship of the original mantra, the worship of Bala. Therefore, on this occasion

One should not give up for any reason. On this day, the Guru bestows blessings upon you, granting you immortality for a moment. Your place is established in the Guru’s heart. As soon as you remember the omnipresent and infinite perspectives, your worshipful Guru also becomes present just by being remembered and removes you from external afflictions. You are unaware in the ashram that you broke through the cycle of calamities and came into peace. God is always present, and the Guru’s presence is experienced.

Hari vyapak sarvatra samana,
Prem se prakat hoi mai jana

The Lord is all-pervasive and present everywhere,
I have realized this through love

To please God, service, vows, and faith are necessary, just as faith and love should be combined in following the Guru’s words. Love is the symbol of extreme devotion. When one meets the Guru, the longing for the Guru’s vision increases. Spiritual peace is attained only by receiving the Guru’s blessings. The disciple should repeatedly utter the name of the Guru; this longing will transform into enthusiasm. Someone has said:

Mohe lagi lagan Guru charanan ki,
Charanan bin mohe kuchh nahi bhaave

I am devoted to the Guru’s feet,
Without the Guru’s feet, nothing appeals to me

There should be unwavering faith in the Guru. Mental, verbal, and physical surrender is your service attitude. Keep your attention on the Guru’s feet, chanting the sacred mantra continuously, and the Guru will grant you refuge. The Guru is not an ordinary person. Through their penance and practice, they have transformed from ordinary to extraordinary. With God’s grace, they have attained supreme knowledge and provided peace, enabling them to alleviate the sufferings of ordinary people, liberate them from delusions, and guide them on the path to the ultimate goal. The Guru should be worshipped and remembered as the Almighty. Someone has said about the Guru:

Guru hi Brahma, Guru hi Veda Granth,
Guru mein sarvasva, Guru hi Satyarth

The Guru is Brahma, the Guru is the Vedic scripture,
The Guru is everything, and the Guru is the ultimate truth

After serving the Guru, you should not have to go to deities or beg for belief. Do not engage in karmic rituals or be hindered by the sounds of mantra recitations. You do not need to undertake intense penance or read the philosophical meanings of the Brahma Sutra, as the Guru has revealed the essence of all scriptures in their teachings. These teachings are the treasure of knowledge. There is no need to visit pilgrimage sites or perform sacrificial rituals; just following the Guru’s teachings is sufficient.

It is like the nectar of life. Follow the path shown by the Guru. All obstacles will be removed, and your faith will bear fruit, bringing peace and satisfaction to your mind.

Main kya jaanoon Mimansa-Vedanta vachana,
Jab Ved bane Guru-mukh ke vachana

What do I know of Mimamsa or Vedanta teachings?
When the Vedas have become the words of the Guru

It is also said that the philosophy of scriptures is present in the Guru’s words. There is no need to read other scriptures. Why understand the secrets of Vedanta, why delve into the Mimamsa’s analysis, why lecture on the Yoga Shastra, what will I do by understanding Patanjali’s philosophy? These are all paths. Following all these will only lead to spirituality. For the philosophy of life and understanding, the Guru’s heart’s word is the complete philosophy. Knowing life and death, understanding the secrets of birth and death in life is the true meaning conveyed by the elder Guru’s teachings. One word from the Guru is filled with complete faith and surrender, which is God. Therefore, following the Guru’s words is beneficial for us. Mahamana Tulsidas also said this with the same sentiment and perspective:

Kaliyug jog na jap na gyaan,
Ek adhaar Ram gun gaana

In Kali Yuga, neither yoga nor chanting nor knowledge,
only one support: singing the praises of Lord Rama

This is the time of Kali Yuga. Kali Yuga is filled with materialism. It is the realm of all opulence and luxury. In this era, humanity’s essence has changed. Every human is determined for self-fulfilment. The desire for the welfare of others is rare. Common people run around for their own happiness, immersed in their own tasks. Therefore, they engage in false behaviour, collecting and spreading rumours. When there is no childlike wisdom towards parents, how can there be devotion to God? This is why a person feels uneasy despite having everything. Understanding makes the world a cause of discomfort. The circulation of doubts pricks like thorns. The human mind’s faith begins to waver. Then the unknown mind wants to come to the refuge of the Guru. The Guru makes them remember God. Through this, the life goal can be achieved. The Guru alone can lead to God:

Guru bin Ram ko, kim vidhi pehchaan,
Guru ke gyaan te, Brahma roop sab jaan

Without the Guru, how can one recognize Rama?
Through the Guru’s knowledge, everyone knows the form of Brahman

The Guru is omnipresent. The Guru is fully capable. The Guru is the means by which one can easily see God. All other means are alternatives, long-term efforts. There is a vast and deep ocean between the soul and the Supreme Soul. The Guru, embodying the form of a bridge, takes the disciple across through practice, instilling feelings of faith and surrender. This proximity to God is attained. Without the Guru’s grace, the feelings of surrender do not arise. The Guru

One should not use political pressure or material means to seek grace. The Guru’s grace is a natural blessing that the disciple receives due to their righteousness and service. Gurudev is capable, and they do not have any special bias or favouritism towards anyone. The disciple’s unwavering faith awakens devotion towards God. For attaining God, the Guru’s name is remembered. A philosopher has written:

Gururnāmai kevalam

Guru’s name alone is enough

By chanting the Guru’s name, the disciple can quickly be rescued from the mire and attain the ocean of salvation. Surrounding a person are enemies like attachment, greed, illusion, anger, etc., which constantly try to disturb them. A person’s attachment does not leave them easily. As long as they do not give up attachment, their mind will not be pure. As long as there are distortions in the mind, how can they follow the steadfast path? Even meritorious deeds done with distortions become sinful. During penance, vows, charity, sacrifices, etc., the mind remains full of impurities. Desires and cravings continue to distract. How can one follow the path of virtue with such distractions? When one gets angry, even on trivial matters, the senses get out of control. The impurities in the senses are transferred to the great souls. The mind’s worldly thoughts and the emergence of sattvic feelings destroy tamasic tendencies. To purify the mind, one does not need a chemical; just being in the Guru’s presence with devotion and surrender purifies the mind. Sitting near the Guru with a pure heart, one attains God and becomes filled with devotion. Someone has rightly said:

Taat swarg apavarg sukh dharia tula ek ang,
Tula na tahi sakal mili jo sukh lav satsang

The joy of heaven or liberation from sorrow,
Cannot compare to a moment of bliss in the company of the Guru

Serving the Guru brings the joy of heaven. While serving the Guru, the mind attains peace, freedom from sufferings, and the tendencies of the mind are elevated. One begins to live a life free from human problems and difficulties. With the senses elevated, the mind gains respect and its impurities are strengthened. Walking on the path of one’s practice, one advances towards spiritual attainments. Those who fail in their practice realize that there is impurity in the disciple’s feelings or a lack of knowledge, or that they are not worthy of being a disciple. Because ignorance is the cause of destruction. Living for penance, vows, and effort is the disciple’s duty. Following this path, one reaches the Guru and becomes immersed in God.

Paramarth ka anupind mein samavesh ho jata hai

Selfless actions become integrated into noble deeds

The full moon day of the month of Ashadha is considered Guru Purnima. This day falls during Chaturmas. During this period, the Gurus do not travel; they establish a single peaceful place as their centre of practice, gather their energy, and provide the nectar of knowledge to seekers through virtuous discourses. On this day, disciples from near and far come to pay their respects to the Guru’s feet and receive blessings. On this occasion, all disciples also meet each other. It is a day of devotion. Dedicated at the feet of the Guru, the disciple prays for a successful life and receives blessings. “A shared company of truth” is important, and one should accept only one Guru in life. Accepting many Gurus does not make blessings effective, as it is said, “Seven cooks spoil the broth.” Therefore, following the path directed by a single Guru is beneficial. In the Guru’s company, with a pure mind, take a place. Every disciple should keep some points in mind:

  1. Have faith in the mind.
  2. Do not criticize the Guru.
  3. Keep the mind pure.
  4. Do not have any desire for material gain.
  5. The Guru’s command is paramount.
  6. Follow the path directed by the Guru.
  7. Do not expect miracles.
  8. Do not conceal anything in the mind.
  9. Everything can be achieved through service and dedication.
  10. Receive the initiation of the mantra properly.

Once the discipleship is accepted, following the path directed by the Guru, the disciple attains liberation from all scriptures and leads a happy life. The Guru’s grace is upon all disciples. The Guru is dedicated, without favouritism. The Guru’s life is an ideal. Each disciple has a generous view and cooperation towards all living beings. Helping all creatures is natural. Engaging in activities for the welfare of society, motivating others towards practice through example, and guiding towards the right path is essential. The spirit of altruism is life’s practice, inspiring disciples to move towards divinity from dilemmas is the duty. The Gurus do not help anyone out of self-interest. They treat everyone equally, from a king to a common person.

The Guru is akin to God, and worshiping the Guru is akin to worshiping one’s protector. By worshiping and praying to the Guru for one day, one receives blessings for the entire year. On this day, one should hold a devotional attitude towards the Guru with faith and offer tilak, clothes, and other items as Dakshina according to one’s capacity. Here the question arises – “Why Dakshina?” The answer is that the Guru does not demand anything for himself. He does not ask for payment for his grace. He accepts the Dakshina voluntarily. The offerings made by you are being used for virtuous purposes. The Guru uses this Dakshina for the welfare of living beings. The offerings made on this day are being used for those purposes. There is no obligation to give Dakshina; it is a matter of faith and dedication. The merit of this virtue is being transferred to your karma. Therefore, giving offerings to the Guru on the holy occasion of Guru Purnima is beneficial. Each particle offered by you is being used beneficially, and your stock of virtue is increasing day by day.

On the occasion of Guru Purnima, by expressing goodwill, faith, and service towards the Guru and increasing your dedication, you enhance the importance of life. This tradition has been continuing unbroken from ancient times. The relationship between Guru and disciple is a sacred bond. Like God, the Guru always takes care of his disciples.

World is One Family

For saints, the entire world is their family. Every living being in the world is a member of their family. They do not have their private family; if they do, society takes precedence. They do not have affectionate feelings towards any particular community or individual but have universal equality. They see everyone with equal vision because the sense of universal self exists within everyone. The vow of benefiting others is their karma, and there is no partiality in this karma. Helping others, feeling the pain of others, serving the helpless, and inspiring towards virtue is their life’s aim. The Guru is free from desires like lust, anger, greed, attachment, pride, envy, and jealousy. They are not touched by these. Attachment to any person or thing for the sake of truth does not exist, and attachment disappears. When there is no attachment, greed vanishes. When there is no greed, there is no awakening of desire. The birth of desires leads to the emergence of vices. Therefore, anger does not arise. Knowing one’s karma as duty is the mark of ignorance, and being satisfied with endless tendencies means there is no contentment. The Guru accepts the burden of the tomb of the wicked. He reaches the pinnacle of the seeker but lives with an affectionate feeling towards all, guiding his disciples on the right path. Such a Guru encompasses the world and holds a benevolent feeling towards the world.

We materialistic worldly people come to the Guru’s refuge and pray for our desires. No devotee seeks the path of divine knowledge or liberation. Only desires drive us, and nobody wishes for the tough knowledge of life’s goals and devotion. Someone wishes for their marriage to be successful. Someone else wishes, “I want to have a vision of the Lord.” Others have desires like “I want to get all materialistic means and become the owner of immense wealth.” They forget that whatever is written in destiny is all that can be obtained. The Guru does not wish to oppose divine power; he cannot prevent military famines, he does not want to change scientific writings, then how can he give such blessings? The primary mantra of the Guru’s devotion is, “Let each disciple accept spirituality.”

A human being is naturally a social animal. They are not artificial. The one who displays falsehood and animalistic tendencies is not worthy of being called the best human. A human’s mind should be pure, without malice towards any feeling. There should be no opposition to anyone, nor hatred. Being kind to everyone is the hallmark of humanity. One who lives only for oneself, finding pleasure in fulfilling one’s selfish desires, cannot be dedicated to human welfare or well-being, and they are constantly engaged in thinking beyond themselves. The Guru teaches and instructs his disciples that to remove all sorrow, one must elevate oneself. Become human. Humanity is paramount, and by imbibing human qualities, a person can attain their goal in a sustainable manner.

The Guru tests the life practices of his disciples. He contemplates the food habits and conduct of the disciples, giving appropriate dietary instructions. As the food, so is the life; this body is sustained by food, and the character is shaped according to the food.

A human Guru is the provider of Dharma, the door to the path of liberation; through this path, one attains divine knowledge in the shadow of the Guru. Humans should continuously strive to increase their virtue. Birds should have homes, freedom should be attained through penance, satisfaction should be found in trees, and food arrangements should be made. All living beings should get pure air. Resting places should be established at various locations. Food stores should be set up. Centres for saints should be established. Ancient heritage should be protected, and cultural values preserved. Food should be sattvic; even the mentality comes under the category of violence. The tamasic qualities of trees and hunters affect the human race, which is contrary to humanity. Tamasic tendencies lead to anger, which is the cause of destruction and downfall. Therefore, according to the instructions of the Guru, food…

Truth Vow

Gurudev says that following truth in life is the greatest penance. The penance of truth is the real austerity. Abandoning truth for any selfish reason is a grave sin. It is possible that following the path of truth might bring you suffering, but you can never be spiritually distressed. Truth always prevails. Truth protects life from disruptions, purifies the soul, brings firmness, strengthens resolve, and through truth, one can reach divinity.

Righteous Path

Gurudev instructs that every human should walk the path of righteousness. Deciding right and wrong with discernment and following the correct path is the essence of Dharma. The essence of Dharma lies in its sustenance, and the sustenance that directs life is capable. Hence, it does not mean that wearing yellow clothes or applying Gorochan is the essence. Displaying a tulsi bead or tilak of tripund or roli is not the essence. Wearing tulsi beads or rudraksha to display grandeur is not the essence. Lighting a fire for penance, chanting in the courtyard, etc., are false tendencies. Serving the welfare of others is true Dharma.

Revere the Teacher as God

Since Vedic times, the Guru’s honour has been revered. By saying ‘Acharya Devo Bhava,’ the Guru has been given the highest place. Even parents have shown more generosity. The Guru-disciple tradition developed in Aryan culture. Since then, the position of the Guru has continued. The tradition of the eternal age continues. Today, the Guru’s dignity remains, but there is an expectation of miracles, while the Guru has been regarded as the highest –

Gurur Brahma, Gurur Vishnu, Gurur Devo Maheshwarah,
Gurur Sakshat Parabrahma, Tasmai Sri Gurave Namah

The Guru is Brahma (the Creator), the Guru is Vishnu (the Preserver),
the Guru is Maheshwara (Shiva, the Destroyer),
The Guru is verily the Supreme Brahman; to that revered Guru, I offer my salutations

Gurudev has been revered as the embodiment of Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva with more faith and esteem, as the supreme Brahman. The virtues of creation, maintenance, and destruction are more comprehensively possessed by the Guru, who has the ability to make even the extraordinary possible. The Guru is memorable and the supreme teacher. Devotee Acharya has expressed the power of the Guru –

Chinmayamtanahantara, Yadavadhudraju Devah,
Tasmintrasrachayary, Pran Manimudgrihih

The One who is filled with consciousness, the One who resides within,
that Supreme Lord who is the Yadav (Krishna) and the ascetic (Shiva).
To Him, who holds the mind like a gem, I offer my salutations

The Guru, through his supreme grace, bestows mental and spiritual thoughts upon his disciples. By remembering and bowing with reverence to the footsteps of the eminent and radiant Gurudev, the disciples get relieved from their sufferings by merely touching the dust of his feet. Thus, by showing compassion towards their Acharyas, they bow down and get freed from all obstacles by the immense power of the Guru –

Ajnatinirmasaradvas, imanamanalagraksha,
Vakshrumimitalatena, tasmai shri-gurave namah

To the Guru, who removes the darkness of ignorance, who protects with the fire of knowledge, and whose speech is sweet like nectar, to that revered Guru, I offer my salutations

By accepting the Guru’s refuge, the disciple performs great deeds. Getting freed from the sorrowful human illusion, fear, hatred, lust, physical, ideal, etc., and thus remains bound to salvation, as a result of which he remains free from the confusion and darkness of life. He remains submerged in the blissful darkness all around. The Guru’s grace alone shows him the ray of light. It guides him from falsehood to truth, from untruth to righteousness, from death to immortality. Indeed, nothing is possible without the Guru’s blessings.

Guru’s Refuge

“If you seek the grace of the Guru merely through external displays, then that effort is as futile as being devoid of knowledge. It wastes the precious time of your life. It is the strong inner desire of a human being that leads one towards the Guru, and this desire should arise naturally. A desire motivated by others is not valid. Only through a genuine desire does one form a firm resolve. A resolute disciple awakens the spirit of surrender towards the Guru. After surrendering, the disciple’s ego naturally dissolves, and the senses become disciplined and controlled. You become fearless and self-restrained. Now, you have no problems or worries of your own. After surrender, it becomes the Guru’s responsibility to protect you and free you from all suffering. To be truly surrendered means to offer your mind, speech, and actions to the Guru. By the grace of the Guru:

Bhakti badhe, mukti kare,
Guru kripa se kusum khilein, santosh se sab sukh hero

Devotion increases, liberation is attained,
By the Guru’s grace, flowers bloom, and all happiness is found in contentment

Everything is possible with the blessings of the Guru. The Guru blesses you with all the means to live a household life while chanting the name of Narayana. The Guru is capable of invoking the grace of Brahman.

Naam nirankaar nar Narayan. Rasana simaran mool bilay,
Narayan kahate nar ban jai Narayan seva sab phal pai

The formless name of Narayana.
By chanting it with the tongue, all roots of suffering are eradicated.
By serving Narayana, one attains all fruits.

Chintamukti Mantra

Pujya Gurudev apne shishya ko vishuddha,
muhurt mein vidhivat deeksha dekar chintāmukti mantra

The revered Gurudev, in an auspicious moment,
formally initiates his disciple with the Chintamukti (worry-free) mantra

The disciple is told that regular chanting of the Guru-initiated mantra with proper pronunciation and rituals at a fixed time is auspicious. In the northeast corner of their house, they should sit on a woollen or high seat at a fixed time. They should place a water-filled vessel in front of them and light an incense lamp. After bowing to their Acharya Gurudev and receiving his blessings, they should practice pranayama with the Gayatri mantra, followed by chanting the Omkara-enriched Guru mantra. After completing the chanting, they should meditate on Gurudev. While meditating, it is appropriate to ask for forgiveness for one’s mistakes. Collecting the water in the vessel after chanting and offering it under the sacred tree is honourable. After this worship, the disciple should take the vow of duty, avoid any inauspicious work, do not cause any pain to others, do not give any trouble to any soul. Protect me with wisdom, I walk with dedication to truth. Your blessings will always be with me. The Guru-initiated mantra will always accompany you as an elixir and a shield. You will be able to fulfil your duties by being free from all obstacles.

Fate

Is it Karma or Fate? What is written in Fate will surely happen. Inevitability is certain. Then, why the need for the analysis of Karma and listening to these noble Gurus, becoming a disciple of the Guru, and following his commands, etc.? Why waste time sitting at the Guru’s nose? Is there a lack of relationships? Relatives like siblings, parents, elder brothers, sisters, etc., all fulfill their duties while teaching the lesson of discipline, boycotting, then why should the burden of the Guru’s excessive load be carried? Everything is obtained from Fate. However, the creation of Fate also depends on the religious. We reap the results of the deeds we performed in our past lives in this life, which is called Fate or meaning. If we do not perform good deeds in this life, how will we attain good Fate in the next life? Gurudev always inspires his disciples for good deeds. The Guru is like a boatman who ferries you across using resolve and devices; otherwise, your boat might get stuck in a whirlpool and sink. Your existence will remain and the boat’s destination.

Your planets are favorable. In your birth star, is there a Gaj-Kesari? ‘Malty’ and Shriwat Yoga also, yet you come to an astrologer to narrate your issues and seek solutions or remedies? This is your foolishness or mere wastage of time. When fortune is favorable, stay sheltered at home, no need for any work in any form. All tasks will happen swiftly.

It is your misconception, false belief that duty must be performed for karma to have meaning in life, otherwise, you will remain inactive and lying on the bed in despair. Fortune also favors the diligent. In the absence of karma, even the fortunate become unfortunate, and thus the merit of your accumulated deeds starts to diminish. Hard work, following the Guru’s guidance, creates destiny. As aptly said in ‘Hitopadesha’:

Simhasya simhasya mukhe na pravishanti mrigah

Deer do not enter the mouth of a sleeping lion

Not only humans, but every creature follows this reality. Without karma, there is no means, devotion, or liberation. The purpose of human life is fulfilled only when one is aware of their duties. No one can reach anywhere just based on fortune. Thoughts must turn into resolutions, otherwise, one becomes confused and does not live a rooted life. Adherence to duty in life depends on the Guru’s teachings and guidance. Gurudev has the capability and strength to explain the true essence of life, inspiring humans to move towards their goals. The Guru never wishes ill for his disciple, but rather, advises them for their well-being, guiding them away from the dreadful commands of birth and death, keeping faith in the Guru –

The glory of Guru’s knowledge, the Guru’s story, the Guru acts as a witness, guiding through karma. Those who live by the Guru’s words, forsake the nectar of immortality and drink the poison of worldly pain.

Only those who accumulate knowledge can attain Guru’s words. No one can become a Guru just by studying scriptures or reciting verses. Through their own practice, the darkness of ignorance within them is cut off, and their inner self is filled with light, thus doing good for themselves and the world. The Guru, witnessing your deeds, makes your tendencies prudent, presenting your truth before God. Those who follow the Guru’s teachings forsake the infallible nectar and drink the cup of time, wandering in various delusions. The qualified disciple has this belief.

Guru-pad pankaj, main nit dhyaanu.
Maya-mad se virat, mukti paau.
Saccha shishya vahi hai jo sadaiv guru-charanon mein shraddhavat rehta hua lakshya ki or agrasar hota hai.
Guru ke vachan vishwas karta hua shubhphal prad hai –
‘Guru ka vachan pratiti na jehi,
Swapn hoon sugam na sukh seehi

“I meditate daily on the lotus feet of the Guru.
Freed from the delusions of Maya and pride, may I attain liberation.
The true disciple is the one who always remains devoted to the Guru’s feet, progressing steadily towards the goal. Trusting in the Guru’s words brings auspicious results:
‘One who does not trust the Guru’s words
Cannot find happiness even in dreams.’

Those who remain faithful to their Guru, adherents of idealism, succeed in attaining their supreme deity.

Following the words of Gurudev precisely, they live life with faith, experiencing happy moments and moving towards their goals. Those who do not have faith in the Guru, do not trust the Guru, they wander. Such people live life only in the world, they cannot even imagine happiness in their dreams, they should not even think of attainment. They remain entangled in their ambitions, performing impure deeds and living in the world with frustration. Devotion to the Guru is the key to happiness. Without the Guru’s knowledge, knowledge is not possible, only the knowledgeable dispels darkness and shows the path of immortality. In the Mahabharata’s Kurukshetra, Shri Krishna tells his disciple Arjuna in this form –

Those who worship with faith and dedication, I reside in them, those who surrender to me, I can never forsake them. I always stay within them, helping them. I take care of their happiness and sorrow, saving them from the world is my aim, because they are mine.

Guruvakyam Amritam

The Guru’s words never involve unnecessary talks. Criticizing someone, mocking, using sarcastic words is not their style. Their language is gentle, praiseworthy, and cultured. Compassion and kindness come through in their examples, meant to explain to you. Refined words and symbolic style are not easily accessible to common people. For intellectual consciousness, even accessible words are auspicious. But common people feel intellectual words are difficult and do not understand logical tendencies. Therefore, the Guru’s words should be respected, they are akin to nectar.

Seva Dharmamoolam

Service is the true path of spiritual practice. Considering service to be the core of religion, free from the controversies of various religious teachers, is auspicious. Making service the practice of achieving success through Siddhi, Gurudev teaches his disciples. The disciple must consider service as the first lesson and the test. Every path is difficult, but the path of service is easy and accessible. Success is achieved through the service and guidance of Gurudev. From common people to God, service is the fundamental mantra. In service – the sense of victory over the senses and the spirit of dedication exist. The path of service is as simple as it is difficult. Regularity and long-term commitment are essential in service tasks. Accordingly, even Bhrigu can make service a part of their work. Krishna or any path cannot deviate from this. In service, there is a solution to resolve. God explains the essence of such a servant –

In the final moments, remembering Me while leaving the body, one attains My nature; there is no doubt in this. Whatever state of being one remembers when he quits his body, O son of Kunti, that state he will attain without fail. Therefore, at all times, remember Me and fight. With mind and intellect dedicated to Me, you will surely come to Me without doubt.

The end time of a being is the movement of life. In the end, the being who remembers Me while giving up the body, his soul is taken care of by the Guru. Those who do not have My remembrance in their consciousness cannot attain Me, they wander in various wombs, suffering the pain of repeated birth and death. The one who follows the path of service remains secure from this suffering. The vow of service is like walking on the edge of a sharp sword. A little carelessness can break the vow and make one deserving of human crime. It has been said –

The vow of service is harder than the edge of a sword.

In the practice of service, discipline is mandatory. Discipline, courage, and strength can sustain the vow of service. The path of service-dharma is the path of practice where the ‘self’ has no existence. The success of service lies in neglecting one’s own happiness. If there is no discipline, one should not accept the practice of service. The person who attains discipline automatically attains all seven siddhis (spiritual powers), and he earns the designation of a saint or ascetic.

The practice of discipline requires the strength of opposition. Obstacles collide with crises and the practitioner, abandoning courage, flees towards heritage. Therefore, firmness is essential. Tests occur in service practice. In our culture, there are many such examples of medals when Gurudev tested the disciples harshly. Even the neglected ones are always given such chapters, but for disregarding ideals, they are even cursed from the sin by the children. Therefore, in the vow, the Guru’s words should be accepted at face value. Every disciple should have a spirit of devotion in their mind. Someone praised the Guru saying –

Guru Sharanam, Guru Sharanam, Guru Sharanam, Guru Sharanam. Guru Sharanam, Guru Sharanam, Guru Sharanam, Guru Sharanam. You are Brahma, You are Vishnu, You are Rudra, You are the Supreme One. Guru Sharanam. Blessed am I, I am yours, I am yours, I am yours. Guru Sharanam.

Neither the power of penance, nor the power of chant, nor the power of might, I am powerless, Guru Sharanam. I am sinful, I am lustful, whatever I am, I am yours, Guru Sharanam.

Serving the Guru is also worship, adoration, and practice. This service is possible only with the spirit of complete surrender. Disciples who successfully complete this practice become worthy of the Guru’s grace and attain siddhi. The Guru takes them under his protection, continuously safeguarding them and leading them towards the goal of life. The service of the Guru is the supreme penance, the courage of God, and the path to liberation from worldly bonds. Therefore, on the occasion of Guru Puja, a disciple should resolve to surrender and serve with devotion and thus achieve perfection.

The Difference Between Sin and Virtue

The Guru differentiates between auspicious and inauspicious, sin and virtue, righteousness and unrighteousness, and truth and falsehood. Your interests, intelligence, or desires cannot define sin and virtue. You cannot impose your kindness. The distinction between duty and non-duty can be made through the Guru’s words. You cannot satisfy yourself by committing robbery, theft, looting, murder, and encroachment. Earning money by causing harm to others and then establishing temples, ashrams, dharamshalas, schools, etc., does not make you virtuous. If you uphold your dharma believing that this is more in the test of dharma, you are mistaken. This is ill-gotten wealth, more in violation of boundaries, whose righteousness involves violence, oppression, and encroachment. Causing pain to others is the greatest sin, and using such money for religious purposes, charity, etc., will not yield any good results for you. It is necessary for the practitioner to be inspired by and adhere to righteousness and to stay away from bad deeds. Flatterers and selfish people may praise your deeds, but not common people. God will never forgive you and will surely punish your crimes.

Which action fulfills you and which action completes you, this can only be shown to you by the Guru. Even the Guru’s words do not accept money earned through sin. The Guru is a proponent of ethics. They respect the observance of yogic principles and inspire for the welfare of others. The Relationship Between Guru and Disciple

Since Vedic times, there has been a unique and powerful relationship between Guru and disciple. Just as where there is smoke, there is fire, similarly where there is a Guru, there is a disciple. Since ancient times, knowledge and education have been exchanged, and this education has existed through the Guru’s efforts. The Guru has provided knowledge of the Earth, space, and the oceans. The Guru has given astronomical knowledge to his disciples. The sages performed intense penance to bring extraordinary knowledge into visibility. This was not the age of science but the pinnacle of knowledge. The Guru has continuously imparted knowledge to disciples, and this tradition is alive even today. Therefore, it is said – there is no knowledge without a Guru. In this era, knowledge can be acquired through books, but the core secrets cannot be understood without a Guru. Only a boatman can gauge the depth of water; similarly, only the Guru knows the path to cross over. Without the boatman, no one can cross the river and attain liberation, but the boatman successfully guides the traveler to the other shore. A common person does not know what lies on the other side, but the boatman knows how to reach from this shore to that shore. Similarly, the Guru knows the path to reach God, where God is, and how God can be attained. Hence, the Guru is essential for the disciple to reach the other shore. Gautama Buddha performed intense penance to reveal the true path of self-realization and to understand the mysteries of birth and death. Mahavira Swami wandered continuously, getting entangled in the web of intense penance but could not attain self-realization. He could understand self-knowledge only under the guidance of the Guru. The disciple Nachiketa reached the abode of Yama due to his Guru’s curse. Even after seeing Yama, he did not develop a sense of revenge but sought a boon to understand his father’s thoughts and to learn the mystery of death. Yama tried to lure Nachiketa with various temptations, but he did not abandon the path of devotion and understood the truth. Everything is possible with Guru’s devotion.

Guru Worship Procedure

On the day of Guru Purnima, the eternal tradition of Guru worship continues. Disciples reach the worship center and, according to their devotion, bow to Gurudev, performing abhisheka (ritual bathing) with water, milk, and other sacred substances, praying to God for the Guru’s long life. At many centers, the abhisheka ritual is conducted along with Vedic chants. After donning a new dhoti and performing the tilak with saffron and roli, they perform the ritual of offering dakshina (donation) to the Guru’s feet according to tradition. By purifying themselves with the holy water, they accept the practice of self-purification as the primary aim of Guru worship. They offer flowers and sweets, expressing their resolve and strength to Gurujan, along with fruits and other offerings as per their capacity. They humbly offer service and bow at the feet of Gurudev, praying for his grace and blessings for a long, healthy, and prosperous life. This day exemplifies the unwavering love between the Guru and disciple, where mutual respect and grace are evident. The Guru’s blessing becomes the disciple’s duty.

Offering worship and praise to the Guru, much like performing rituals in temples, the disciples receive divine blessings. This tradition of knowledge and grace continues from ancient times to the present day. The relationship between the Guru and disciple is born from the knowledge imparted and the grace received. During the offering of dakshina, the Guru’s mind does not dwell on the material gifts but on the dedication of the disciple. The Guru blesses all with long life, good health, prosperity, happiness, and righteousness, praying –

Asato ma sadgamaya,
Tamaso ma jyotirgamaya,
Mrityorma amritam gamaya,
Sabhi sukhi rahein, nirogi hon sabhi,
Koi bhi dukh dard na pave kabhi

Lead me from untruth to truth,
Lead me from darkness to light,
Lead me from death to immortality,
May everyone be happy, may everyone be healthy,
May no one ever experience sorrow or pain

Reflecting on the welfare of the world, sages consider their entire family and wish for a bright future. Each human, taking the brightness of the sun and the tranquility of the moonlit night, engages in righteous deeds under the Guru’s guidance. Let the whole nation be prosperous, educated, and a center of peace. Teaching humanity, instilling moral values, and liberating from the cycle of life and death is the foremost duty of Gurudev. At the Guru’s place, the inscription reads –

Yatra yatra dharmam tatratatra jayah,
Jahan-jahan dharm ki sthapna hai, vahan-vahan sattav vijay hi vijay hai

Wherever there is Dharma, there is victory,
Wherever there is the establishment of Dharma, there is victory

Most Revered Guru’s Feet

Devotion and surrender to the Guru are oceans of happiness. To be seated at the Guru’s feet requires strict adherence to rules. One must be disciplined, resolute, a seeker, forgiving, a listener to all, a giver of commands, and one who performs penance for the benefit of others to be worthy of this position. All these qualities are inherent in the Guru. Having devotion to the Guru is awakening.

Duhkhavidahanantaram shokasantapahaarakam,
Vidyadaanapradataram guruvaram namamyaham,
Bhayatrashyavidaram gyan-vigyanadharakam,
Kshamashar gunakaram premanidhim namamyaham

I bow to the revered Guru, the one who removes sorrow and dispels grief and suffering,
I bow to the treasure of love, the one who imparts the gift of knowledge, dispels fear and trembling, and is the embodiment of forgiveness and virtue

A thinker expressed feelings of devotion towards the Guru in this way:

He mere advay sanrakshak! Satya-dharm ke upasak! Sanskriti ke sabal poshak! Mere aradhya dev! Har pal mere nayon mein aapka hi pratibimb ho!

Mere kanon mein ‘guru smaranam’ ke geet gunje, mere ardhon par aapke hi naam ki dhun ho, phir kaisa bhi sangram ho vijay ka dhvaj aapke hi charan-kamlon mein hoga. Path saral ho ya visham andh ka aaroh ya sagar ki gahrai, aapke aadarsh ke bal par gyan ki jyoti jalakar prakaash-path par badh raha hun. He kripa sagar! Mujhe dhairyabal ke avlamb dena, sahas, shakti, satya ka sambal dena

“O my unique protector! Worshipper of truth and righteousness! Strong supporter of culture! My revered deity! Initiator of the righteous path! May the pollen from your lotus feet always be imprinted on my forehead, may your blessed hand always be on my head. Whether I collide with storms or play on the waves of affection, may I walk on the righteous path under your shadow. Every moment in my eyes, may your reflection be!

In my ears, may the songs of ‘Guru Smaranam’ resonate, on my lips, may the tune of your name play, no matter the battle, the flag of victory will be at your lotus feet. Whether the path is easy or difficult, the ascent of the dark or the depth of the ocean, with the power of your ideals, lighting the lamp of knowledge, I am progressing on the path of light. O ocean of grace! Give me the support of patience and strength, grant me courage, strength, and truth.”

The Gurus inspire one to follow the righteous path and preach to walk on the path of true dharma. In the context of Guru’s greatness, praises are always sung. A poet has said:

Shrimananta sadhanashrantam, aghadakaradhvantam gurum.
Gyanavantam prabhakantam, namomi dayavimanatam.
Shantam shuddham tapolitam, danam vedantatattparam,
Pranamami yatha sarvam, nitantam hetanalpalakam

I bow to the revered Guru, who is ever engaged in infinite practices, dispelling the darkness of sin, endowed with knowledge and radiant like the sun, and who embodies compassion.
I bow to the one who is peaceful, pure, and illuminated by austerity, who is the essence of Vedanta, and who is always benevolent and protective, like a father who cares for all.

Om Aim Hrim Shri Gyanadevaya Gurave Namah

Om, I bow to the revered Guru, who is the embodiment of divine knowledge, the essence of wisdom, and spiritual enlightenment.

Chanting this mantra to attain the true Guru is auspicious. By meditating, chanting, and merely remembering Gurudev, a disciple can be freed from severe suffering. Some people consider this a delusion, but if remembered spiritually, there are such examples and stories that are termed miracles. These miracles and truths are considered as coincidences and fortune by some, but those who experience these events are fully acquainted with the truth. They continuously chant ‘Guru Sharanam’ in their life. Traditional great men, accomplished saints, and preceptors have such miraculous stories. All those disciples narrate these events with devotion and bow to the Guru’s feet with full mind and heart. Even today, devotees continuously visit the ashram, stand before the Samadhi, and shed tears. Guru service is a matter of faith and belief.

On the auspicious and holy occasion of Guru Purnima, worship and pray to Maharaj with reverence to receive complete blessings –
